HARARE – Dynamos showcased their resurgence in Zimbabwean football with an impressive performance against CAPS United, earning their place in the Chibuku Super Cup final.
The team managed by Genesis Mangombe will now face Premier League leaders Ngezi Platinum in the highly-anticipated Chibuku Super Cup final clash.
Ngezi Platinum secured their spot in the final after defeating Black Rhinos 3-0 on Saturday, with goals from Malvin Gaki, Marlvin Kwinjo, and Claude Mapoka in the second half.
Having experienced a slow start to the season, Dynamos has made a remarkable turnaround, positioning themselves as the primary contenders to challenge Ngezi Platinum for the league title.
Their early-season rivals, Highlanders, continue to fall behind as Dynamos continues their resurgence.
In an intense derby match held at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, CAPS United posed an early threat with their set-piece plays.
Dynamos’ goalkeeper, Prince Tafiremutsa, made a crucial save when he tipped Rodwell Chinyengetere’s free-kick over the crossbar.
He was called into action once more on the 26th minute, skillfully diverting Godknows Murwira’s low free-kick around the post.

On the 35th minute, CAPS United created another dangerous opportunity from a Murwira free-kick, causing chaos in Dynamos’ penalty area.
Tafiremutsa initially fumbled the ball but was saved by his defence, who cleared it to safety.
However, CAPS United’s missed chances came back to haunt them as Dynamos took the lead just before halftime.
Issa Sadiki exposed Ashley Rayners’ positioning with a brilliantly curled free-kick from the edge of the box that found the back of the net.
Despite their efforts to make a comeback, CAPS United struggled to breach Dynamos’ defense and were repeatedly thwarted by their profligacy in front of goal.
Frustrations grew for their coach, Lloyd Chitembwe.
Dynamos secured their win as full-time approached. With CAPS United committing players forward in a desperate attempt to level the score, Elton Chikona seized an opportunity.
He gained possession in his half and sprinted towards Rayners’ goal.
Chikona skillfully rounded the goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net, sealing their third victory over United this season and completing the league double over their rivals.
The victory keeps Dynamos’ hopes of a league and cup double alive.
They currently trail Ngezi Platinum by eight points, which could narrow to five as they have a game in hand, with five matches still left to play in the season.
