Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera announced on Tuesday that Vice President Saulos Chilima will be stripped of all delegated duties for allegedly receiving money from British businessman Zuneth Sattar.
President Chakwera also fired Malawi Police Inspector General George Kainja, as well as his chief of staff, Prince Kapondamgaga.

According to the Malawi leader, the ACB report revealed that 53 public officers and former public officers allegedly received money from Sattar between March 2021 and October 2021.
Sattar allegedly gave money to 31 people from the private sector and the media.
Meanwhile, Chilima’s party UTM released a public statement on Wednesday accepting the decision by President Chakwera though they expressed confidence justice will prevail.
“We, as UTM, are shocked and saddened by the turn of events in the past 24 hours, but as a Party that has absolute belief and trust in Malawi’s justice system, we have absolute confidence that justice will prevail in the end.
“We are not going to make further comments henceforth until this issue comes to its logical conclusion.
“We continue to give our unwavering support and following to our President, Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima, who led us through all trials and tribulations before and during the Campaign period that ushered in this present Government,” UTM spokesperson Frank Mwenifundo said.
