CHEGUTU – Chegutu West lawmaker Dexter Nduna has been arrested for leading and influencing a foiled land invasion from Risboro Farm in Chegutu.

Nduna, who was arrested Wednesday and spent the night in detention, is due to appear in Chegutu Magistrate’s Court today.

He was arrested for violating Section 3(1)(4) of the Gazetted Land Act, Chapter 20:28, as amended by Statutory Instrument 8/2006.

It is still unclear whether accomplices have been arrested in addition to Nduna.

The Risboro Farm was intended for urban development, with the Municipality of Chegutu and the Chegutu Rural District Council working in a joint committee on the project.

More than 5,000 illegal settlers invaded the 1,176-acre farm in June, fortifying housing estates of varying sizes with pickaxes and pickaxes.

Nduna becomes the second member of parliament and ZANU PF official to be arrested on charges of corruption recently after Gokwe-Nembudziya lawmaker Justice Mayor Wadyajena was nabbed last week for stealing US$5m from Cottco.

Wadyajena was granted bail on Thursday last week in a case many have termed ‘catch and release’ drama.
