Cheziya High School in Italy for World Youth Chess Championships

Cheziya High School chess team, comprising has arrived in Rome, Italy, to participate in the prestigious World Youth Chess Championships.

GOKWE The Cheziya High School chess team, comprising Ishmael Henry Kaitano, Gamuchirai Gogoma, Ezywell Mutema, and coach Blessing Jemani, has arrived in Rome, Italy, to participate in the prestigious World Youth Chess Championships.

The tournament, scheduled from November 12 to November 25, 2023, gathers young talents from around the globe to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Ezywell Mutema will be competing in the Under 14 category, while Gamuchirai Gogoma and Ishmael Henry Kaitano will be participating in the Under 18 girls’ and boys’ categories, respectively.

Team coach Blessing Jemani expressed the team’s gratitude for the opportunity to compete in Italy, especially after facing logistical challenges that prevented their participation in the World Schools Team Chess Championships in Kazakhstan earlier in August 2023.

“We are happy with the opportunity and confident we will bring the trophy home. This is the biggest tournament at the youth level, and we are looking forward to creating a positive impression in sports in the country. This is a great opportunity, and we promise to do our best,” said Jemani.

Prior to their departure, the Cheziya High School chess team had the privilege of meeting Italian Ambassador Umberto Malnati at the Italian Embassy, underscoring the significance of their participation in the international competition.

Cheziya High School has been making waves in the chess arena, clinching the title of champions at the 2023 Crystal Candy National Schools Chess League Finals in the secondary boys’ category.

Additionally, the school secured the best-placed position in the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) national individual scholars’ championships.

The World Youth Chess Championships provide a platform for young chess enthusiasts to showcase their talent, exchange cultural experiences, and foster international camaraderie through the game of chess.

The Cheziya High School chess team aims to leave a lasting impact and make their mark on the global chess stage.
