HARARE – The Football Association of Malawi has turned down a request by Nyasa Big Bullets to invite Dynamos for a four team tournament in March due to Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football by FIFA.
Under the FIFA suspension, Zimbabwean national teams and clubs are barred from participating in international football.
Football Association of Malawi competitions director Gomezgani Zakazaka said they turned down the request to have Dynamos participate in a tournament that would also involve a team from Mozambique because Zimbabwe is not recognized by FIFA at the moment
“We cannot grant Bullets the license because of the inclusion of Zimbabwe team Dynamos. The ban by FIFA applies to all national teams and local clubs. It even applies to school teams,” Zakazaka said.
“That is why Zimbabwe teams cannot participate in club competitions.”
According to Bullets’ application for the licence, they wanted Dynamos, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and UD Songo of Mozambique to participate in the four-team mini tournament in March.
Zimbabwe was suspended from international football last year over government interference in the affairs of ZIFA following the suspension of the Felton Kamambo led board by the Sports and Recreation Commission on allegations of abusing public funds which are still to be substantiated even after a forensic audit.
