HARARE – Dynamos are set to end another season without a major silverware after being booted out of the Chibuku Super Cup by FC Platinum on Sunday and with the destiny of the league title no longer in their hands.
The fading Glamour Boys will once again be left to search for clues on how to return glory eight years after Kalisto Pasuwa‘s departure.
For the past six seasons, Dynamos have huffed and puffed trying to replicate the glorious spell under Pasuwa in which they won four consecutive league titles including the prime knockout tournaments then, but have failed to find the formula.
The late David ‘Yogi’ Mandigogara was given the button soon after Pasuwa’s departure hoping that he was going to replicate his 2007 achievement in which he gave Dynamos their first title in 10 years but he was to last only seven months, leaving his then assistant Tonderai Ndiraya to finish off the season.
Portuguese coach Paulo Jorge Silva was even brought in 2016 with an inflated resume claiming that he worked with VfB Stuttgart, Nuremberg, in Germany and Sporting Lisbon in Portugal and was going to land the league title but again he didn’t last long with Lloyd Mutasa being elevated from being assistant to head coach.
Mutasa came close in 2017 losing the title to FC Platinum but was sacked the following season and was replaced by Lloyd Chigowe the following season.
Ndiraya bounced back for a second stint as head coach in 2019 taking over from Chigowe and seemed to be on course towards winning the 2022 league title until Dynamos lost steam allowing FC Platinum to leapfrog them into first position, eight points ahead with seven matches before the end of the season.
Despite facing a Herculean task of overhauling an eight point deficit against Norman Mapeza‘s side, Ndiraya still entertain hopes of leapfrogging the Zvishavane side to win the title.
“I believe the race is not yet over. They might slip and we take advantage. Of course, it’s for FC Platinum to lose but this is football anything can happen,” Ndiraya said.
“We just need to continue pushing, what is important now is to focus on ourselves, focus on getting points and hopefully we can win it.”
