Zimbabwe leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired his long time ally Energy Mutodi as the deputy minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.

In a government communique dated 20th May 2020, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda announced the termination of employment by President Mnangagwa, of Energy Mutodi as deputy minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.

“The termination which is with immediate effect, is in terms of Section 108 (1a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment No.20) of 2013,” reads the letter.

Reasons for the dismissal of the ‘motormouth rhumba singer’ were not stated though the altercation with Foreign Affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo a fortnight ago may have proven to be the final straw.
