MAPUTO – Zimbabwe champions FC Platinum began their quest for glory with an important away victory against Costa do Sol in the CAF Champions League preliminary round fixture played in Maputo, Mozambique on Saturday.
The entertaining match ended 1-2 in favor of the visitors who were playing a competitive game almost a year since they last featured in a match.
The match marked the beginning of coach Norman Mapeza’s second spell at the club.
The gaffer was re-appointed the head coach of the team following the sacking of Dutchman Pieter de Jongh last week.

Prolific striker Ralph Kawondera scored the opening goal in the encounter with a header in the 67th minute to give Platinum a deserved lead.
Perfect Chikwende could have extended the lead a few moments later but his strike was ruled out for an offside.
The home side equalised with six minutes to play but the parity was short lived as Elias Makuri restored the lead for FC Platinum two minutes later.
The Zimbabwe champions will now take a 2-1 advantage into the return fixture at home next week.
