FIFA suspends poor Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has been suspended by FIFA following the government's refusal to reinstate the Felton Kamambo led board.

ZURICH – Zimbabwe has been suspended by FIFA following the government’s refusal to reinstate the Felton Kamambo led board.

The suspensions were revealed by FIFA President Giovanni Infantino during a news conference that was streamed live online on February 24.

In a letter to ZIFA chief executive Joseph Mamutse, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said Zimbabwean national teams, clubs are no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted.

According to Zimbabwean authorities, they were taking action against sexual abuse, incompetence, and corruption.

FIFA claims that the allegations should be thoroughly investigated without interference from the government, but ZIFA disputes them.

The suspension also means that ZIFA nor any of it’s members or officials may benefit from any development programs, courses or training from the global football governing body and or CAF.
