LUSAKA – President Hakainde Hichilema has fired Gary Nkombo as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, replacing him with Sinazongwe Member of Parliament Gift Simuunza Sialubalo.

The decision was announced today by State House through Principal Private Secretary Bradford Machila.

While no official reason was given for Nkombo’s dismissal, President Hichilema expressed gratitude for his service to the nation.

“The President has thanked Hon. Nkombo for his service rendered to the people and the Republic of Zambia,” the statement read.

Nkombo is one of the most senior and long-time members of the UPND and has long been touted as a possible successor of President Hichilema by bookmakers.

However, the latest developments can be seen as a blow to the realisation of this dream.

Meanwhile, HH congratulated Sialubalo on his appointment and wished him God’s blessings in his new role.
