HARARE – Prominent scribe Hopewell Chin’ono who was arrested in July and spent a month in prison before his release on bail has been arrested again.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights confirmed Chin’ono has been arrested. It is believed the arrest relates to a breach of his bail conditions as they relate to social media use.

United Kingdom based academic Alex Magaisa shed more light on the arrest of Chin’ono by indicating it is probably related to the exposure of Chief Justice Luke Malaba over office abuse.

“Further to my earlier tweet, Hopewell Chin’ono was arrested at his home this evening. I am advised some of the officers claimed to be from the President’s office. One of the officers filmed the arrest.”

“He has been taken to the Law and Order department of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and members of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights are attending to his matter. That is all I have for now.”

“The arrest is allegedly in connection with tweets regarding the conduct of Chief Justice Malaba,” wrote Magaisa.
