HARARE – MDC Alliance youth assembly leaders Joana Mamombe and Cecelia Chimbiri have both been denied bail by a Harare judge in a case accusing the couple of undermining the police authority.
The two, who had previously been released on bail in a case alleging they ‘faked their abduction’ by suspected state security agents last May and broke lockdown rules, were released on Monday this week for allegedly allegedly insulted the arrested police.
The pair are believed to have made the charges during a protest organized by young people in the capital demanding the release of 23-year-old student activist Allan Moyo.
When he denied them bail, Harare Regional Judge Stanford Mambanje said the pair tended to commit further crimes after their release. The judge also said the couple disregarded their bail conditions.
They were detained until March 13.
