HARARE – MDC Alliance national vice chairman Job Sikhala has been granted Z$25,000 bail by the High Court exactly one month after his arrest.
Sikhala was arrested on August 21 on trumped up charges of attempting to overthrow Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government and has since attempted in court to secure bail, but was unsuccessful.
However, Supreme Court Justice Erica Ndewere finally delivered the good news to all progressive minds and a crowd of Sikhala supporters on Tuesday by criticizing the state for its reckless actions on the matter.
“No evidence was presented to the court that the applicant was wanted by the police. Officer Mukova aggravated his case by saying that Detective Inspector Makore had been looking for the complainant, but Makore himself denied that he had done so,” Judge Ndewere noted.
Justice Ndewere criticized the conduct and behavior of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Force for being unprofessional.
Job Sikhala will spend the night in Chikurubi jail because he cannot pay bail as government offices that hold bail were closed when the sentencing was handed down.
