MALLORCA – Olympique Lyon loanee Tino Kadewere, scored his maiden LaLiga goal to help Mallorca defeat 10 men Villarreal 4-2 on Saturday becoming the first player from Zimbabwe to score in the Spanish top division.
After a poor clearance by Villarreal goalkeeper Pepe Reina was intercepted by Muriqi, the 27-year-old, opened the scoring to mark his first league start for his team.
Yet, this is not Kadewere’s first goal for Real Mallorca as he also scored in his team’s spectacular 6-0 triumph over sixth-tier club CD Autol in the first round of the Kings Cup in November of last year.
Kadewere, on loan from French Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyon, broke the deadlock in the 20th minute before Villarreal player Manu Trigueros was given a red card the next minute.
The famed Yellow Submarine then found the equaliser in the 43rd minute through Jose Morales but Mallorca score again on the half time mark courtesy of Dani Rodriguez.
After the breather Villarreal equalised via Samuel Chukwueze in the 50th minute though the celebration was short lived when Rodriguez completed his brace six minutes later as Mallorca surged ahead.
Vedat Muriqi ensured the match was beyond reach with a final goal for Mallorca in the 63rd minute to complete a memorable 4-2 win.
The victory saw Mallorca pip Villarreal who are now 9th on the LaLiga log standings with 31 points the same as their opponent.
