DURBAN – Former Kaizer Chiefs midfield enforcer, Willard Katsande, is on the verge of a big move to DStv Premiership side Amazulu following his official release by Amakhosi this week.

Amazulu, who will be participating in the upcoming CAF Champions League 2021/22, are said to be interested in signing the former Zimbabwe national team captain to add depth and experience to their squad.

Kaizer Chiefs announced Tuesday the departure of Willard Katsande and six other players whom the club deemed surplus to requirements following a season of mixed fortunes for the Glamour Boys.

Chiefs performed badly in the DStv Premiership under then coach Gavin Hunt but managed to reach the final of the CAF Champions League were they lost to champions Al Ahly last week.

Reports in South Africa had suggested that Amakhosi were looking to offer Katsande who had been at the club for ten years, another long term contract especially after the return of coach Stuart Baxter.

All that is gone as Chiefs confirmed the departure of the man nicknamed ‘Salt and Vinegar’ and the release understandably fuels speculation.

Amazulu are seriously looking to sign the player to bolster their squad. Benny McCarthy, the coach of Usuthu, is a big fan of the hard tackling anchorman who had a decent season in the recently concluded Champions League.

Newcomers Sekhukhune United are also reported to be interested in securing the services of Katsande and will be looking to hijack the Amazulu move.
