PRETORIA – Pretoria High Court heard on Wednesday that it was allegedly singer Kelly Khumalo who accidentally shot and killed her lover and football star Senzo Meyiwa.
This was revealed by Defense Attorney Malesela Teffo, who cross-examined State’s witness Sergeant Thabo Mosia.
Teffo also said the same witness alleges the gun Khumalo fired was taken to Khumalo’s mother’s home in Vosloorus by Longwe Twala, who was dating the singer’s sister Zandi.
This emerges from the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness, Sergeant Thabo Mosia, who was in forensic medicine after the October 26, 2014 shooting.
Teffo, the lawyer for the first four defendants, said he would bring an eyewitness would testify that it was Khumalo who pulled the trigger on a gun that killed Meyiwa.
“A witness will testify that Meyiwa was accidentally shot by Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo. The same witness will further testify that the weapon used was supplied with Longwe Twala and that the firearm is a revolver,” Teffo told Mosiah.
Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of Meyiwa at Khumalo’s home.
He said a meeting was then held with those inside the house, with the police and the community security officer, MEC Sizakele Nkosi Malobane.
“The meeting was to hide or concoct a plan to avoid saying how Senzo was killed,” he said.
Teffo completed his cross-examination and attorney Zandile Mshololo, counsel for defendant number five, began questioning Mosiah.
