LOS ANGELES — Reality star Kim Kardashian has asked a US court to expedite her divorce, saying it would help her husband Ye come to terms with the end of the relationship.
Kardashian filed for divorce last year after months of reports of marital strife in the press and the rapper, formerly known as Kanye West, struggling with mental health issues.
Ye has been very public in his fight against the breakup, including posting on social media asking Kardashian for a reconciliation.
“I really want a divorce,” Kardashian wrote in a statement filed in Los Angeles court on Wednesday.
“I asked Kanye to keep our divorce a secret, but he didn’t.
“I believe the court that ends our marital status will help Kanye come to terms with the end of our marital relationship and get on a better path that will help us raise our children peacefully together.”
The couple have four children: daughter North, 8, son Saint, 6, daughter Chicago, 4, and son Psalm, 2.
The couple, who started dating in 2012 and married in a lavish ceremony in Italy two years later, have quickly become one of the world’s most iconic couples.
But her union ran into trouble with reports of bizarre outbursts from Ye, who has bipolar disorder.
“Although I wish our marriage had been successful, I realized there was no way to fix our marriage,” Kardashian wrote in the filing.
“Kanye disagrees, but at least he seems to have realized that I want to end our marriage even if he doesn’t.”
