VP Chiwenga promises better fortunes for Zimbabwe health sector

Zimbabwe’s health delivery system is being reformed and restructured, new Health minister vice president Constantino Chiwenga said yesterday, promising a new era in healthcare. 

HARARE – Zimbabwe’s health delivery system is being reformed and restructured, new Health minister vice president Constantino Chiwenga said yesterday, promising a new era in healthcare.

Speaking for the first time following his appointment to head the ministry, he said:

“Things will never be the same again. We are restructuring and reforming our health delivery system. We want to rebuild the structures from village to referral level. Things will never be the same again, but we must work together.”

Chiwenga emphasised the significance of addressing living conditions in addition to working conditions for health professionals, which will be his main mandate during his tenure.

He further stated that there will be non-financial incentives which include home and car loans, institutional housing, transportation, canteens, as well as fitness and rehabilitation facilities.
