Macao relaxes travel restrictions on China mainland visitors

Macao Special Administrative Region will relax travel requirements for visitors from mainland China from Thursday.

Macao Special Administrative Region will relax travel requirements for visitors from mainland China from Thursday.

The authorities will also extend the validity period for negative COVID-19 test results from 72 hours to 7 days for visitors entering through the port of entrance of Zhuhai in the southern province of Guangdong.

In response to the epidemic situation in neighboring areas and after reaching an agreement on the Zhuhai-Macao joint prevention and control mechanism, Macao authorities announced on Wednesday that people from Guangdong province will be allowed to cross the checkpoints.

Travellers who will cross Zhuhai-Macao checkpoint or enter Macao by sea must provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test within 7 days of the date of sample collection.

For those traveling from Macau to Guangdong Province, the validity period for proof of a negative test result is 7 days. Other requirements for cross-border disease prevention remain unchanged.

“It’s a very good sign that passenger transport between the mainland and Macao at the port has become more convenient,” Li Xiaobing, a Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan expert from Nankai University said on Wednesday.
