PRETORIA — Former Black Rhinos and Dynamos striker Tawanda Macheke has become the latest Zimbabwean player to trek down south after signing for South African DStv premiership side Maritzburg United.

Details of the contract have not been availed but Macheke was signed after impressing coach Ernst Middendorp during a trial stint.

However, Macheke’s manager Gibson Mahachi said the striker has signed a two year contract with an option of an extension if he performs well.

The former Dynamos striker was Black Rhinos’ standout player in the Chibuku Super Cup and League before his contract with the army side expired in December.

Macheke was unveiled on Tuesday along with other new signings Friday Samu, Genino Palace, Steven Pereira and Lucky Baloyi.

Maritzburg United also announced their partnership with German Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld which might see some players from the South African club get opportunities to be scouted by the German side.
