PRETORIA – Mamelodi Sundowns rose to the top of the DStv Premiership table – temporarily – after an effective 3-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.

Neo Maema, Peter Shalulile and Marcelo Allende were on target for the defending champions’ as they picked up their third win of the season.

Masandawana have now racked up 10 points after five games in the DStv Premiership and seem on course to defend their title.

It was a convincing victory for the Brazilians who are starting to find rhythm in their game and at times looked like the team that has dominated the local league for the last five years.

After the match, Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena said there was still plenty of room for improvement despite the win over Stellenbosch.

“Congratulations firstly to Bafana Ba Style, Congratulations to the entire team but this one has to go to coach Manqoba, he actually called it from yesterday that Thapelo sub,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV.

“When we thought about bringing on other players, he said ‘Coach remember we had that plan from yesterday’, so it was a coach Manqoba move.

“We like what this team looks like today, much better, good intensity, good aggression and we played with a lot of energy from the start,” he said.
