JOHANNESBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday appointed Justice Mandisa Maya as Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa.
Maya, the current president of the Supreme Court of Appeals, will take up her post as Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa on September 1.
The latest appointment comes after President Ramaphosa named former deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo as Chief Justice in April.
On the decision to settle for Justice Maya as deputy chief justice, President Ramaphosa said Maya has extensive experience, having served as a magistrate for more than 20 years.
“Justice Maya will contribute to the ongoing transformation process of the judiciary. Her ascendency to the apex court will serve as a beacon of hope for scores of young women and make them believe that South Africa is a country of possibilities, regardless of gender, social or economic circumstances.”
