HARARE – CAPS United beat stubborn Bulawayo City thanks to a solitary goal by William Manondo in a stormy Castle Lager Premier Soccer League game at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday.
Manondo, currently the league’s top scorer benefited from a corner from defender Valentine Musarurwa, as he nodded in the 69th minute to finally break a brave resistance from the visitors.
Bulawayo City felt they were thwarted by referee Thabani Bamala after disallowing them two offside goals in each half.
Few minutes into the game, City player Solomon Sithole appeared to have negotiated an offside trap before hitting the back of the net only for the goal to be chalked.
It was then a balanced affair from there onwards until Manondo broke the deadlock in the second half to give Makepekepe the lead.
In the dying moments Bulawayo City rushed en masse as they tried to equalize and substitute Dalibuhle Dhodho slammed into the CAPS United defense to place the ball, only for the assistant referee’s flag to fly again.
The win moved CAPS United up to 12th position on the log with 29 points from 24 games.
