HARARE – MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe has been granted $10 000 bail by a High Court judge, ending his 3-month detention.
The release follows an intervention by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, which challenged the illegal detention of Haruzivishe by the state.
Haruzivishe was sentenced to 14 months in prison in April this year after being found guilty of inciting violence.
The youthful opposition activist expressed relief following this landmark ruling and vowed to continue with the quest for a new government in Zimbabwe.
Opposition members have found the going getting tougher under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who rose to power following the ouster of his boss Robert Mugabe in November 2017.
Mnangagwa has proven to be a different breed, with opposition protests being met with aggressive resistance from the police force.
