South African doctor testifies alleging Mnangagwa’s attempted murder of Chiwenga

A South African medical doctor, Willi Leo Sieling, testified at the Harare magistrates court that Mary Mubaiwa, former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, told him that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had allegedly attempted to kill Chiwenga in 2018.

HARARE – Startling claims emerged on Friday as a South African medical doctor, Willi Leo Sieling, testified at the Harare magistrates court that Mary Mubaiwa, former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, told him that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had allegedly attempted to kill Chiwenga in 2018.

Sieling’s testimony came as part of a case in which Mubaiwa is facing a charge of attempting to murder her ex-husband.

Sieling detailed the alleged events, stating that Mubaiwa had urged him to administer a dangerous drug called pethidine to sedate Chiwenga.

Sieling recounted his interactions with Mubaiwa, revealing her persistent demands for the administration of the drug, which he refused due to its addictive and harmful nature.

“The suspect started from the beginning and consistently told me that His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe wanted to kill the complainant (Chiwenga) starting with the grenade attack,” Sieling testified.

Chiwenga had previously survived an explosion during a rally at White City Stadium in 2018.

The blast resulted in injuries to numerous individuals, including security personnel, politicians, and supporters. Three security aides tragically lost their lives in the incident.

Sieling’s testimony also included his interactions with Mubaiwa at a Pretoria hotel in 2018 and subsequent visits.

He stated that Mubaiwa introduced him to another doctor, Dr. Bruce Peck, during his time at the hotel.

Sieling highlighted his concerns about Chiwenga’s health and the administration of pethidine, a potent narcotic analgesic, which was confirmed in Chiwenga’s urine specimen.

Mubaiwa’s alleged actions came to light when she purportedly attempted to remove life support devices connected to Chiwenga while he was recovering in a Pretoria hospital.

Prosecutors have charged Mubaiwa with intending to finish off Chiwenga during his period of critical illness.

The case, which has drawn significant attention, has been adjourned to August 28 for further proceedings.

The allegations raised by Sieling‘s testimony have added another layer of complexity to an already highly sensitive and closely watched legal matter.
