PRETORIA – Zimbabwe national football team began their Cosafa Cup 2021 campaign with a lifeless performance against minnows Mozambique.
The match between the two countries which was played at the Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa ended in a goalless draw.
It will be a fair result to Mozambique when the strength of their opponents considered but the overall performance can prove they lost two points than a point gained.
Zimbabwe lacked purpose and their style of play was one made in hades with every ball in their possession pumped forward with any direction.
The Warriors, coached by Croatian gaffer Zdravko Logarusic, are slowly sinking into an ordinary team even at a tournament they are known for being good.
Mozambique began the match on the front foot and could have scored in the 2nd minute through Abel Nhantumbo but goalkeeper Washington Arubi was up to the challenge.
Zimbabwe were tested once again by their opponents in the 10th minute by Estevano Novela, only for Arubi to make a wonderful save.
A chance for the Warriors came in the 80th minute and Delic Murimba wasted it to sum up a bad day for Zimbabwe.
Warriors coach Logarusic who has become a genius of excuses was content with the draw.
“We only had five days preparing and we haven’t played in the league since November 2019. This means there were no official games except the cup games.
“This is a good start. We created chances and they also had some good opportunities. I think at the end of the day it’s a fair result,” said Logarusic.
