Mpho Phalatse elected Johannesburg mayor

JOHANNESBURG – Dr. Mpho Phalatse emerged victorious in the battle to wear the mayor’s chains in South Africa’s economic hub against incumbent ANC mayor Mpho Moerane.

And all thanks to ActionSA and the EFF, the DA now controls Johannesburg.

Phalatse defeated Moerane by 23 votes, becoming the Metro’s first female mayor.

This ended the AD’s takeover after a victory as spokesperson by 29 votes, with Vasco da Gama emerging victorious over Eunice Mgcina of the ANC.

ActionSA chief Herman Mashaba said prosecutors had him and the EFF to thank for their victory, which he promised to repeat to Tshwane on Tuesday.

“There have been discussions between us and the EFF to say let’s support the DA and let’s see what happens.

It was important for us to make sure we didn’t have ANC governments in the three Gauteng metropolitan areas.

“We agree with the EFF that we will not allow the DA to hand over this community to the ANC.

“We are proud of our achievement, now we have pulled the ANC out of government not only in Joburg but also in Ekurhuleni and we will do that tomorrow in Tshwane,” Mashaba said.
