A day after announcing a sponsorship deal with English Premier League club Crystal Palace, financial services company Mukuru has signed a naming rights deal with Malawian giants Mighty Wanderers.
Under the deal, Mighty Wanderers will now change their name to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
Mighty Wanderers board secretary Humphrey Mvula confirmed the sponsorship deal.
Mukuru chief executive officer Andy Jury said they are looking at ploughing back where their customers are.
“Malawi is home to millions of passionate football fans and the opportunity to sponsor the Malawi team came just in time to show our passion for local success stories,” Jury said.
“Malawi, which is one example, happens to be an important market for Mukuru, with Malawian expatriates all over the world using the service to send money to loved ones back home.”
“We are excited about the prospect of raising our name in the Malawian Premier League. Africa’s love for football extends beyond the Premier League, and the continent itself hosts leagues, and teams of passionate fans.”
Jury said Mukuru is a company that puts the customer at the heart of their operations.
“Our core and passion lie in helping to solve problems for emerging consumers in Africa and uniting people around the world.”
Mukuru also signed a sponsorship deal with Zimbabwe born South African rugby legend Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira.
