Mwonzora unwilling to join Polad; demands inclusive dialogue

HARARE - The unpopular Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) platform for the ruling Zanu PF and certain opposition parties is at risk of becoming irrelevant as the MDC-T continues to show unwillingness to endorse it.

HARARE – The unpopular Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) of the ruling Zanu PF and some opposition parties risks becoming useless as the MDC-T still does not want to support them.

The MDC-T’s latest stance comes after Douglas Mwonzora was elevated to party leader.

The party chairman’s spokesman, Witness Dube, was quoted by a local newspaper as saying that Mwonzora did not attend the recent meeting because they preferred a broader dialogue beyond Polad.

“The MDC-T chairman was not and will not attend Polad in its current form,” Dube said.

The Polad platform was created by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to address the issue of legitimacy of his leadership following the disputed 2018 elections and the November 2017 coup.
