JOHANNESBURG – Orlando Pirates continued their winning streak in the South African Premiership, claiming a fifth victory in six matches with a 2-1 triumph over Golden Arrows on Sunday.

The victory propelled Pirates two places up the league table to third.

The encounter saw both teams converting first-half penalties, with Patrick Maswanganyi giving the Soweto visitors the lead and Nduduzo Sibiya equalizing for Golden Arrows.

The decisive goal came 11 minutes into the second half when Congolese player Karim Kimvuidi slammed a loose ball into the net from close range.

Pirates, under the guidance of Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, have been on an impressive winning streak.

Despite winning three knockout competitions since Riveiro’s arrival last season, their primary goal is to secure the Premiership title, aiming to claim it for the first time since 2012.

While Pirates celebrate their ascent to third place, Golden Arrows‘ struggles continue as they suffered a fifth straight league defeat.

The team, which had only lost once in the first nine rounds of the season, finds itself in the seventh position.

In another weekend match, SuperSport United netted twice in the final five minutes, securing a 2-1 victory against Moroka Swallows in Soweto.

Nigerian Eliosa Ighodaro scored the match-winner for SuperSport United.

The defeat for Swallows was accompanied by off-field challenges, with coach and former South Africa captain Steve Komphela revealing that the squad had boycotted training for ten days due to alleged unpaid salaries.

Despite the latest results, SuperSport United sits in the second position with 26 points, trailing league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have 33 points.

Orlando Pirates closely follows in third place with 25 points.
