Paris Olympics: Charamba, Makarawu through to 200m semis

Zimbabwean athletes Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu are through to the Men's 200m semi finals of the Paris Olympics after clocking qualifying times on Monday night.

PARIS – Zimbabwean athletes Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu are through to the Men’s 200m semi finals of the Paris Olympics after clocking qualifying times on Monday night.

Both Charamba and Makarawu came out second in their heats.

First to take on to the track was Charamba who clocked 20:27 seconds in Heat 3 which was won by gold medal favorite Letsile Tebogo of Bostwana while Italian athlete Filippo Tortu claimed third position.

Makarawu clocked 20:07 seconds in Heat 5 which was won by USA athlete Erriyon Knighton who clocked 19.99 seconds.

South African athlete Shaun Maswanganyi came a distance third with 20.20 seconds to seal the last slot.

Charamba and Makarawu will be back in action on Wednesday night in the semi finals.

Makanakaishe Charamba (Zimbabwe) – 20.27 seconds
Filippo Tortu (Italy) – 20.29 seconds

Heat 5:
Erriyon Knighton (USA) – 19.99 seconds
Tapiwanashe Makarawu (Zimbabwe) – 20.07 seconds
Shaun Maswanganyi (South Africa) – 20.20 seconds
