Police launch witch hunt for Diepsloot gunmen

Gauteng police are searching for gunmen involved in a shooting that killed two people in Diepsloot on Friday night.

JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng police have launched a witch hunt for gunmen involved in a shooting that killed two people in Diepsloot on Friday night.

Police said the couple were attacked along with another person who escaped unscathed.

Police were reportedly patrolling the streets of the crime-ridden area when they heard gunshots.

The victims were seated in front of a hut at the time of the attack.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested.

The latest attack comes weeks after Police Minister Bheki Cele sent a tactical response team to Diepsloot as part of what he called a temporary intervention to deal with the high crime rate in the city.

Diepsloot has become a haven of crime with a vigilante group of locals grabbing the headlines a few weeks ago after setting a foreign national Elvis Nyathi ablaze.

Earlier this month, there was a two-day protest by the crime-fighting community, prompting Cele’s visit.
