CAPE TOWN — Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan announced on Tuesday that Eskom‘s board of directors will be revamped and restructured.
The minister met with council members whose terms expired last year and whose positions have been renewed pending review.
Gordhan informed the council, chaired by Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, that a review had been carried out and members would be informed of the outcome of the process.
In a statement, the Ministry of Public Enterprises said the government would consider reconstituting a new, restructured Eskom board and would make an announcement in due course.
The restructuring of Eskom’s board came as political parties in parliament demanded the board and the removal of the CEO in the wake of the recent load shedding.
Gordhan said he was in constant communication with the board on various issues related to “current generation challenges” and other energy-related issues such as procurement, hiring of alumni experienced Eskom employees and the fight against fraud and corruption.
The Department of Public Enterprises said Pravin Gordhan thanked the current board for their service during the company’s most difficult time.
