LOS ANGELES – US-based gospel artist Rev T T Chivaviro, real name Toggy Chivaviro is making international headlines after winning at the 2022 InterContinental Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Chivaviro received an award in the Best of Africa Afro Sounds category for his 2020 hit song “Kana Wakayambuka”.
The acclaimed Zimbabwean singer believes global awards are key to opening international doors for Zimbabwean artists.
“Thank you all for your help. I am very excited and grateful for this worldwide recognition. It is something very special for all of us Zimbabweans.
“I know that the greatest recognition we will get as gospel musicians is to go to heaven but here on earth these are some of the accolades that keep us going.
“I celebrate that too because it gives us a platform to access greater platforms in the world, opens doors for us to share the stage with great artists,” Chivaviro said.
He also stressed the importance of originality for artists to make a difference.
“As for my fellow musicians from Zimbabwe, my call will always be, ‘Let’s stick to the original’. I was assigned to Sungura, a Zimbabwean sound. The award is for all Zimbabweans.”
The Zimbabwean gospel musician rose to fame in 2014 with his 2014 hit ‘Ebenezer’ which featured other gospel heavyweights such as Baba Manyeruke, Baba Charamba and Bethen Pasinawako.
The InterContinental Music Awards are a global and ethical perspective on music nominations from industry professionals and Hollywood music executives.
