Zim creative Shaznay Woods gets international award nomination

Zimbabwean artist Shaznay Woods has been nominated for the Best Female Achiever award at the Africa Young Talent Achievers Awards, which will take place in Ghana later this month.

HARARE – Zimbabwean multi-talented creative Shaznay Woods has been nominated for the Best Female Achiever award at the Africa Young Talent Achievers Awards, which will take place in Ghana later this month.

Woods, who is 22 years old, is a talented poet, actress, model, and video vixen.

She is excited about her first international nomination, saying that it has motivated her to work even harder on her upcoming gender-based body of work.

The voting for the awards is currently open on Kampaign Live website for various categories.

Woods is pleased to be nominated alongside other talented females from Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Malawi.

She believes that her poetry is being well-received by people who don’t understand the Shona language, and encourages fellow poets to vocalise their beliefs and ideologies in their work.

Woods’ work is broad, clear, and authentic, and she tries to tell her stories in a way that everyone can relate to.

She mixes her vernacular poems with a bit of English and adds visuals to her poetry to give it a double impact in passing the intended message.

Apart from her several projects, Woods has partnered with the Netherlands embassy to fight for gender balance in Africa.

Her advocacy work includes advocating for young women, creating opportunities for girls, and impacting communities through 16 gender champions who will be implementing projects for women and girls, including boys too.

As a video vixen, Woods has featured in music videos by popular Zimbabwean artists such as Jah Prayzah, Qonfuzed, Baba Harare. She has also featured in a movie called Hadassah.

Woods plans to use her spoken word and poetry to advocate for women and girls, against any form of violence such as rape, early marriages, molestation of female students in schools, and verbal abuse from touts.

She believes that we need to create a safe place for girls throughout the country.

Woods owes her achievements and fast growth in the showbiz industry to her authenticity, diversity, and transparency.

The youthful creative encourages her fellow poets to realize what they stand for and stick to it, without letting popularity distract them from their purpose.
