Taliban authorities said on Tuesday they had dissolved Afghanistan's independent human rights commission because it was "not deemed necessary".

BEIJING - Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen this week told Chinese state media that China has played a constructive role in promoting peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan and is welcome to contribute to the rebuilding of the country.

The Taliban called on Afghanistan's imams to urge unity when they hold their first Friday prayers since the Islamist group seized control of the country, as protests against the takeover spread to more cities on Thursday, including the capital, Kabul.
