LONDON – Zimbabwe international Tawanda Chirewa returned to full fitness after a lengthy period on the sidelines and made a cameo for Derby Country in an English Championship match against West Brom on Boxing Day.

Derby County won the match 2-1 courtesy of goals from Jerry Yates in the 28th minute and a Mason Holgate own goal eight minutes after the hour mark.

West Brom got their consolation Grady Diangana nine minutes from full time but it was the return of Chirewa that caught attention.

The talented winger who is on a season long loan from Premier League side Wolves was introduced in the 70th minute as a replacement for Kayden Jackson.

Prior to this, the 21-year-old spent eight weeks nursing a thigh injury he suffered in October.

In the match against West Brom, Chirewa showed flashes of the dangerous winger he can be on a good day as he tormented opposition defenders.

The twenty minute show was enough for Chirewa to earn praises from Derby County manager Paul Warne.

Warne said Tawanda Chirewa did well when he was introduced.

This can serve as a spark of positivism as everyone looks forward to more appearances for Tawanda.
