MAPUTO – TotalEnergies chief executive officer Patrick Pouyanne met President Filipe Nyusi on Friday in Pemba for a crunch meeting to discuss about the Mozambique LNG Project and other urgent issues.
Besides the lucrative Mozambique LNG Project to be developed in Area 1 of the Basin of Rovuma, the two also discussed the humanitarian and security situation in the province of Cabo Delgado.
Pouyanne visited the towns of Palma and Mocímboa da Praia, the industrial zone of Afungi and the resettlement village of Quitunda on Friday.
At the conclusion of the visit, he informed President Nyusi that the situation in the province of Cabo Delgado has significantly improved.
The situation in Cabo Delgado has calmed recently as a result of the actions of the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces, which has had the support of the forces of SAMIM and Rwanda.
At the meeting, Nyusi and Pouyanne acknowledged that both the gradual restoration of public services and the population’s return to normal life was going at a good pace.
What is TotalEnergies Mozambique LNG Project?
Mozambique LNG (Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas Project) is the first project to be developed on land and includes the development of the Golfinho and Atum fields located in Area 1, offshore, and the construction of two liquefaction platforms, with a total capacity of 13.1 million tons per year.

According to information, current plans for the about 65 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas involve a two-train project with a 43 million tonnes per year expansion capacity (MTPA).
TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, a 100% owned subsidiary of TotalEnergies SE, operates the Mozambique LNG Project with a 26.5% stake, together with Mitsui EP Mozambique Area 1 Limited (20%), ENH Rovuma Area Um SA (15%), ONGC Videsh Rovuma Limited (10%), Beas Rovuma Energy Mozambique BV (10%) and PTTEP Mozambique Area 1 Limited (8.5%).
