Windfall for Mapeza ahead of big WC games

Zimbabwe is reported to have promised interim coach Norman Mapeza a US$600 000 bonus should he wave his magic and qualify the nation to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

HARARE – Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is reported to have promised Warriors interim coach Norman Mapeza a US$600 000 bonus should he wave his magic and qualify the nation to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Local newspaper, Newsday reported that Mapeza was promised to take the 5 percent of the US$12 million that is given to every nation by FIFA for qualifying for the World Cup.

Sacked coach Zdravko Logarusic pocketed US$55 000 as bonus for presiding over the Warriors qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Warriors anchor the group with a point from two matches, three points behind log leaders South Africa and Mapeza’s first assignment to try and salvage Zimbabwe’s campaign will be away to Ghana early next month.

FIFA are still to release the actual dates for the matches but the Warriors will host Ghana four days after the match which is pencilled for Kumasi.

Ghana recently sacked Charles Akonnor and was replaced by returning Serbian gaffer Milovan Rajevac who is on a US$45 000 per month salary contract.
