HARARE – A storm is brewing within the ruling Zanu PF as top officials bicker over the likely successor of Kembo Mohadi for the Vice Presidency following his forced resignation this week, RosGwen24 can exclusively report.

Mohadi announced his resignation following a damning expose of his immoral unions which has been trending online for weeks.

The former second in command official, however, maintains his innocence alleging a sponsored operation to force him out.

“I am a victim of information distortion, voice cloning, and sponsored spooking and political sabotage. Digital media, in their hybridity, have been abused by my enemies to blackmail me, but my spirit will never die,” said Mohadi in his resignation statement.

According to insiders , the resignation of Mohadi was thrown into the agenda last week with a section of the party’s Women’s League and top security officials arguing the embarrassing issue was likely to cost the liberation movement votes in the 2023 elections.

“It is dog eat dog in the party at the moment. The deputy president (Mohadi) was forced out and you know it is a well orchestrated move but that is politics,” said one top official.

The delay in the official announcement was necessitated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is said to have pleaded with the other sections to throw their weight behind the Beitbridge godfather.

“It was HE (President Mnangagwa) who backed the deputy president before his eventual resignation but he lost the game to those who call the shots,” the official added.

The reliable information shows that a dangerous crack has emerged in the governing party with the two major factions Lacoste (a faction that supports Mnangagwa) and Cosleg (a military backed arm) jostling to fill the vacant seat.

One faction wants the elevation of a woman to the presidium following past calls and resolutions by the Women’s League during the time when the other Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was recuperating in China for months in 2019 following a sudden sickness.

The vacant position which is supposed to be filled by a top member of Zapu following the December 1987 Unity Accord will likely create tension this time as information shows that the two factions are pushing for a departure from the long-standing charter.

This move will have to be justified by the elevation of a woman to the vice presidency blocking any chance of Simon Khaya Moyo or secretary for administration Obert Mpofu taking over.

Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri is the emerging leading personality to land the position ahead of Women Affairs minister Sithembiso Nyoni in the event that the party settles for a woman VP though the health of the former may stand in her way.

The other dark horses include Broadcasting services minister Monica Mutsvangwa and Women’s League boss Mabel Chinomona.

However, the move will likely face resistance from the military wing who are angling for the elevation of Zimbabwe Defence Forces general Philip Valerio Sibanda who will either settle for the Vice Presidency or the Defence ministry post.

The replacement of Mohadi following his forced resignation will certainly cause a shake in the famed revolutionary party Zanu PF than initially intended.

It will eventually move the ruining party closer to its eventual demise with events in the next days or months likely to define the direction the country will take in the future.
