KWEKWE – Police have released 11 of 16 Zanu PF youths arrested for allegedly killing a Citizens Coalition for Change supporter during a rally in Kwekwe on Sunday.
Five men were charged on Tuesday with public violence and the murder of Mboneni Ncube.
Edmore Shoshera, 30, Albert Maketo Tembo, 29, Percy Mukwaturi, 38, Talent Imbayago, 28, and Panashe Makuvaza were not asked to plead when they appeared before Kwekwe Judge Florence Nago, who granted their release until April 15.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine Ncube’s cause of death. Prosecutor disclosed that the deceased was stabbed at least twice with a sharp object.
Prosecutor Ethel Bhumure said the five people condoned attacking the CCC rally when party leader Nelson Chamisa was in the middle of his speech. They threw rocks, whipped people with sjamboks, stabbed some with spears and knives, and damaged several cars.
Liberty Mashanyare represents the five.
The CCC on Tuesday accused the Central Intelligence Organization of “hijacking” funeral proceedings after ordering senior party officials to leave, including Settlement Chikwinya, Kwekwe Central’s candidate for deputy.
Ncube’s family say he will be buried in Lower Gweru when his body is released after the autopsy.
