TOWNSVILLE – Zimbabwe stunned an almost full-strength Australia with three wickets on Saturday to claim a historic victory in their third one-day international match in Townsville.
After leg spinner Ryan Burl (5-10) played a major role in dismissing the hosts at low 141, Zimbabwe overcame a shaky pursuit to beat the cricketing powerhouse for the first time in Australia.
The famed Chevrons hauled in the target in the 39th over, triggering party scenes.
It was a consolation win for Zimbabwe to close the three game series which they lost 2-1 to Aussie.
“We struggled a lot…it was a testament to the work the guys put in,” said Zimbabwe captain Regis Chakabva.
Chakabva top-scored in the match with a composed 37 not out.
