Zimbabwe thrashed Papua New Guinea by 228 runs in the first match of the 2022 ICC U19 World Cup played in Trinidad and Tobago.

Skipper Emmanuel Bawa (100) scored his second U19 World Cup hundred to power Zimbabwe to 321 for 9 in the Group C encounter at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.

Victor Chirwa took 2 for 11, while Ngenyasha Zvinoera (2/25) and Brian Bennett (2/20) contributed to bowling out Papua New Guinea for 93 in 35 overs.

Meanwhile, in Guyana, India moved to the top of Group B with a 45-run win over South Africa at Providence Stadium.

Yash Dull scored 82 to inspire the four-time champions to 232 all out in 46.5 overs.

Left-arm orthodox spinner Vicky Ostwal then snared 5 for 28 to bowl out South Africa for 187 in 45.3 overs.

Also in Group B, Ireland got past Uganda by 39 runs after an unbeaten 111  by Joshua Cox.

Matthew Humphreys took 4 for 25 as Ireland dismissed Uganda for 193 despite 63 from captain Pascal Murungi. 

Finally, Ali Naseer hit 73 not out as the United Arab Emirates eased past Canada by 49 runs at Basseterre.

Chasing 285 for victory, Canada got positive starts from Anoop Chima (46) and Kairav Sharma (43).

However, when UAE’s Alishan Sharafu (2/27) dismissed top-scorer Mihir Patel for 96, Canada’s hopes of victory were dashed.
