Zimbabwe increases electricity generation to ease load shedding

Zimbabwe will not experience frequent power outages at least for the time being after power company, ZESA Holdings reportedly secured imports and increased its generating capacity.

HARARE – Zimbabwe will not experience frequent power outages at least for the time being after power company, ZESA Holdings reportedly secured imports and increased its generating capacity.

ZESA is believed to have restored power generating units at Hwange Power Station to relieve the electricity crisis that has grappled the nation in recent days.

The mitigating measures come after several weeks of decreased production that was linked to Lake Kariba’s declining water levels.

The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) had to issue the unpopular order to the power company to decrease power generation at the Kariba South Power Station due to declining water levels.

ZESA announced Friday that it was lowering load shedding nationwide.

“ZESA Holdings is happy to inform its esteemed stakeholders that the country’s rising energy supply has led to a decrease in load curtailment across all of our customer groups.

“Our engineers and technicians have been slaving away to make sure that electricity generation is boosted.

“As a result, we have enhanced output at the Hwange Power Station by restarting the damaged Units, making five out of the six units operational at the moment, which has increased supply to the national grid,” the utility company said.

The demand supply gap will be lessened during the holiday break thanks to this new development, according to ZESA, who also expects a drop in corporate demand during the same period.
