Zimbabwe senior netball team, the Gems began the Pent Series in Namibia on a losing note going down 56-38 to Malawi on Monday.
Gems coach Lloyd Makunde blamed fatigue due to poor travelling arrangements which saw the team spend two days on the road to Namibia for the team’s defeat.
The tournament which has six countries, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Malawi and Kenya is being played on a round robin format.
The Gems play Kenya on Tuesday afternoon, Uganda on Wednesday, Namibia on Thursday and lastly Zambia on Friday.
Netball has been on the freeze in Zimbabwe for the past two years due to Covid-19 restrictions which put a ban on sports.
The recent return to club netball has seen the competitiveness of domestic league affected by the split of the Rainbow Amateur Netball League with some big teams forming the Premier Netball League.
Both teams leagues have ended up adding teams of inferior quality just to make up the numbers.
