HARARE – Zimbabwe’s annual inflation rate rose to 362.63 percent in January 2020, up from 348.59 percent last month, according to latest numbers from the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency (ZimStat).
January spike bucks the trend in recent months as the country’s inflation has been going down since July 2020, which coincided with the introduction of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) foreign currency auction system in June.
“The year on year inflation rate (annual percentage change) for the month ofJanuary 2021 as measured by the all items blended Consumer Price Index stood at 191.52 percent,” reported ZimStat.
“The blended Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month ending January 2021 stood at 110.52 compared to 107.55 in Dec 2020 and 37.91 in January 2020.”
The year on year inflation rate (annual percentage change) for the month of Jan 2021 as measured by the all items blended Consumer Price Index stood at 191.52 percent, said the statistics body.
Month-on-month inflation in January 2021 was 5.43 percent, gaining 1.21 percentage points on December’s 4.22 percent.
In terms of the Blended Consumer Price Index for January 2021, the month on month inflation rate in January 2021 was 2.76 percent gaining 0.01 percentage points on the December 2020 rate of 2.75 percent.
