Zimbabwe’s unaccounted minerals wealth raises eyebrows, says Matewu

Marondera Central member of parliament Caston Matewu has challenged government to come clean on mushrooming dubious wealth people in Zimbabwe who don't contribute anything to the economy.

HARARE – Marondera Central member of parliament Caston Matewu has challenged government to come clean on mushrooming dubious wealth people in Zimbabwe contributing nothing to the economy.

The outspoken Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) lawmaker made the remarks in parliament saying some of the stolen taxpayers money end up in the hands of flamboyant characters with no business to show.

“You go to the mining sector, you find there are so many people who flaunt their wealth on social media and so forth boasting that they have big mines. But when you look at the royalties or the income that then comes to the government, there is nothing. There is absolutely nothing.

“They provide nothing to the fiscus of this country, but yet those are the same people who are extracting the mineral wealth that we boast that in this country we have 61 precious minerals which are supposed to be giving us wealth as Zimbabwe,” charged Matewu.
