HARARE – Members of the Zimbabwe National Defence Forces have reportedly launched protests over budget allocations to the Ministry of Defence.
This was announced by Dzivarasekwa MP Edwin Mushoriwa during a budget session in Parliament on Wednesday.
“This budget is a threat to security because it did not provide enough money to the army,” Mushoriwa said.
“My constituency includes barracks and I’m concerned about the vibe there.”

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube committed $546.9 million to the Ministry of Defence in his 2019 budget report.
The exorbitant number has been widely condemned by many Zimbabweans.
However, the Minister defended it saying that it was aimed at ensuring the maintenance of equipment, facilities, training and development.
“This allowance is small; we have a situation where our soldiers sometimes eat two meals a day instead of three; our police do not deal with crime scenes because they do not have transport and other equipment to use. So we have to make them capacitive,” Ncube said.
