UK based former Warriors midfielder Kennedy ‘Poborsky’ Chihuri and developmental coach Trevor Mazhande were in Zimbabwe last week grooming talent in Marondera and Murehwa where they presented football equipment to amateur youth teams.

The equipment was sourced by United Kingdom based travel and tourism company Shanyai Bookings as part of it’s corporate social responsibility giving back to communities in Zimbabwe.

Chihuri and Mazhande of Harvesters In Sport UK and also U23 coach of Team Zimbabwe UK took the youths in Marondera and Murehwa through life skills lessons and dangers of drug abuse.

The former Chapungu and CAPS United midfielder who played in the Czech Republic for a number of years, said it was gratifying to be involved in giving back to communities in Zimbabwe and inspiring the youths.

“I still continue to support youngsters in Zimbabwe and ever ready to develop sport nationwide.

“All Zimbabweans should never forget their roots, and must do their best to support grassroot sports and keep our youngsters away from the drug problem,” Chihuri said.

In a statement, Shanyai Bookings said it was very humbling to have the support of Chihuri and Mazhande in reaching out to communities in Zimbabwe because of their works in grooming talent in the United Kingdom.

“The youngsters were blessed to be visited by such football greats, who are committed to continue supporting local football and urged youth’s to shun drugs,” read the statement.

“Shanyai Bookings team strongly believe in our social responsibility to our communities where our journeys started.

“We came from such communities in Murehwa, Marondera, Wedza and our commitment to our people remains a high priority and we aim to continue such efforts forever.”

Gurjinder Kahlon also donated reusable sanitary pads to girls in Hakata Village in Murehwa.

The pads were presented by the Blair Family who were on a visit to Zimbabwe.

Kahlon said sport and sanitary wear remain key enablers to meeting the sustainable development goals as they not only cut across the sustainable development goals but remain key enablers.
