HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Affirmative Action Group (AAG) President’s sidekick Mike Chimombe have been arrested after hosting a house party in violation of Covid-19 regulations.
Chimombe, 40, was hosting 300 friends at an address on Stonechat Lane in Borrowdale from 9pm Saturday until around 3.30am Sunday, police said.
In a statement, police said Chimombe was arrested on Monday along with two other party organizers called “Boss Myk All Black Party” – Kudakwashe Chigodo, 31, and Bruce Moyo who is 35 years.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Chimombe said, “All black parties were on.”
The Covid-19 rules in force at the time prohibited all gatherings and imposed a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
On Tuesday, the government said gatherings of up to 100 people would be allowed, with a curfew in place from 10 p.m. to 5.30 a.m.
Chimombe has met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa on several occasions and, through the AAG, wants to mobilize young voters to re-elect the 79-year-old for another five-year term in 2023.
Chimombe has teamed up with self-proclaimed prophet and comedian Passion Java and Zanu PF fundraising committee leader Phillip Chiyangwa.
